Pottery

Suzie Carr at the wheel!
Throwing a pot!

The eight week course will take you through the all the processes of pottery, and you will end the course with your own selection of pots.  You will learn how to preparing the clay, to throw pots on the wheel, turning, making handles and glazing. The tutor will fire all pots for the students, but will explain the different drying and firing stages to students.  Coil pots will also be made.

The course will naturally let you develop your own style, some students will find they prefer to throw pots, others may prefer the freedom of modeling. The tutor will support you to go in the direction that you wish, creating the pieces that you want.

Many students sign up to further courses.  Some of our pottery students have been attending classes for up to four years.  Many of these students are working the pottery studio like their own, producing high quality pieces but with help from the tutor only as and  when they need it, which means that new students will find that the tutor has plenty of time for one-on-one tuition.

" I look forward to pottery every week; finding out how my last pot has dried, seeing finished glazed pieces, thinking about creating a bigger and better piece as my skill develops and allows, and working alongside the other students in a creative environment who have become friends".

Linda, Blandford

Classes are held in our fully equipped pottery studio with experienced tutor Simon Case in classes of no more than six students.
