Blacksmithing

Blacksmithing students at work
One Day
Be a blacksmith for the day! Spend a day
in a fully equipped forge learning about the workshop and practicing
basic blacksmithing techniques. After covering health and safety
procedures in the forge you will be shown the tools, equipment and how
to light and use the forge. You will cover basic metallurgy; iron,
steel and non-ferrous; will work the metal at different temperatures;
and will learn how to judge the heat of the metal by it's colour. You
will also get to work on an anvil and swage block, learn pointing, curling
and forge welding.
Spend the morning practicing these techniques
and in the afternoon you will be able to put all these processes together
to create your own forged metal work to take home.
"First class! An interesting and informative
insight into blacksmithing." Phillip, Shaftesbury
"A thotoughly enjoyable day run at a good pace." Simon,
Romsey
