Stone Day


A practical day learning about stone renovation and repair in buildings with local Stone Mason Ed Closier.

Types of Stone:

Igneous, metamorphic, sedimentary. Looking at examples and discussing.

Basic tools use:

Mallets and chisels. Working stone, restoration & repairs.

Health & Safety:

Goggles, ear defenders (aprons & gloves).

1. Repointing & Raking Out:

  • Lime mixes for repointing
  • What to do?
  • Listed or not?

2. Working Stone:

  • Knowing when to replace and when not to – how far has the decay gone?
  • Bath stone to be worked (plinth & chamfer)

3. Rebuilding Stone Wall with Lime Mix

4. Stone Repairs with Non Ferrous Metals & Epoxy Resin – repairing object


5. Question and Answer Session
