Open Canoe Building
A five-day course at DCRS with Angelo Young of Canoebushcraft.com
All of the materials and equipment needed to build your open canoe will be provided along with professional guidance and instruction throughout the build. The finished open canoe is then yours to take home.
Day 1
On arrival you will be introduced, guided around the facilities and shown to your individual work stations. Building of the canoe will commence immediately starting with the lofting out of the birch ply hull panels ready for cutting and shaping.
Day 2
Cutting out birch ply panels, shaping, sanding and preparing them for joining. Once prepared you will start the joining process using 18 gage wires. At this point your open canoe will start taking shape. The canoe is then prepared for fibre glassing the panel joints.
Day 3
After cutting the supports and positioning them to form the canoes correct shape you will start fibre glassing the panels. Whilst the fiberglass is curing you will cut and shape the centre thwart.
Once the fiberglass is cured you will fit the centre thwart then measure and fit the breast hook support.
Day 4
